According to Phoenix Police, Juan Mena-Brito, 41, was struck by a car that that had veered onto a sidewalk after colliding with another vehicle in an intersection Sunday afternoon.
Eyewitnesses to the incident report that Mena-Brito was able to push his wife out of the path of the oncoming car before it could strike her. His actions may very well have saved her life.
“He is my hero for saving my life,” Alma Soriano, Mena-Brito’s wife, said. “And I love him and cherish him for the rest of my life.”
Alma Soriano suffers from lupus and requires dialysis treatment three days a week. The couple have two children together, ages nine and 16.
A second pedestrian who was on the sidewalk at the time of the accident also suffered minor injuries. Neither driver in the initial two-vehicle crash were seriously hurt.
