Sentence Forthcoming in Deadly Crash

The woman who was responsible for a wrong-way fatal crash in 2014 on a Gilbert Freeway has been sentenced to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to two counts of second-degree murder and one count of endangerment.

Patricia Neal Murphy, 70, was sentenced last Monday in Maricopa County Superior Court.

According to authorities, on May 18, 2014,Murphy drove the wrong way on Freeway Loop 202 before crashing her vehicle head-on into another vehicle.

The crash took the lives of a couple from Mesa; Michael Ruquet, 25, and Ashley Adea, 20.

Murphy herself suffered severe injuries in the crash. Blood alcohol tests indicate that her blood alcohol levels at the time of the fatal crash were 0.18 percent – more than twice the level of legal intoxication of 0.08 percent.
