A police officer with the Peoria Police Department was injured by a vehicle fleeing from a traffic stop on Saturday morning.
Authorities say that officers attempted to stop a vehicle near 84th Avenue and Union Hills Drive. As the vehicle, being driven by Michael Gordon Bradford, 30, he fled the scene. Bradford’s vehicle struck one of the officer’s legs.
Police pursued Bradford’s vehicle into the area of 98th and Peoria avenues and saw what they believed to be a firearm in his hand. Bradford then ditched the car he was in and took with him a skateboard and bag. Bradford managed to make it to a bike path and skated away from police on his skateboard.
Peoria Police were assisted in capturing Bradford by both the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office and the Department of Public Safety. Bradford was eventually located and apprehended in a back yard of a home.
While attempting to elude police, Bradford dropped the bag that had a rifle in it. The bag and firearm were later retrieved.
Bradford was arrested and booked into the 4th Avenue Jail. He currently faces 10 separate charges which include aggravated assault on a police officer, unlawful flight from a law enforcement vehicle, and possession of a weapon by a prohibited person. Police indicate that depending on results of an ongoing investigation, additional charges may be pending.
The police officer injured in the incident did not suffer major injury and is expected to make a full recovery.
